About the Coffee Box.

The Coffee Box is four single origin coffees in one box: Jaguar Honey from Costa Rica, Karambi from Rwanda, Colombia Huila Supremo and Kenya Ruka Chui. Four countries, four growing landscapes and four completely different cups.

From honey-processed sweetness with apricot and yellow plum to Rwanda's black tea and blackcurrant, Huila's dark chocolate and Kenya's bright lemon. Behind every coffee are small-scale growers, and every coffee has its own story. You can read about them below.

Choose 4 × 100 g if you want to taste your way through all four, or 4 × 250 g if you want more of each. The coffee is roasted in small batches to order in Stockholm.

Tarrazú lies high up, and cool nights and warm days let the cherries ripen slowly. That is what gives the sweetness, acidity and depth in the cup. The coffee is grown by smallholders and processed at Beneficio San Diego.

In the honey process, some of the fruit sugar is left on the bean as it dries, giving a natural sweetness and a round body with a fresh acidity.

    Impact.

Jaguar Honey is part of a project for the jaguar's habitat in Costa Rica. The jaguar is an umbrella species: when it is protected, many other species are protected too. Since the project started, the coffee has contributed over USD 20,000 to Fundazoo and its work for the country's biodiversity.

  2. Bag of Karambi

The coffee grows on steep slopes with a cool climate and mineral-rich clay soil, where the cherries ripen slowly. The growers carry the cherries on foot through the hilly landscape to the washing station, so they arrive quickly and in good condition.

There they are hand-sorted and sorted by density, so only the ripest cherries go on. After two-stage fermentation the beans dry for 28 days on raised beds, with moisture, temperature and airflow checked daily.

    The cup.

Light body, delicate acidity and a bright, clean cup.

  3. Bag of Colombia Huila Supremo

Huila lies between two mountain ranges, the Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Central, in a landscape of ancient volcanoes. Almost a fifth of Colombia's coffee comes from here.

The coffee is grown on small family farms, on average around 1.5 hectares, in the shade of trees that give birds a home and keep the soil fertile. The cherries are picked by hand when ripe.

    What does Supremo mean?

Colombia's highest size grade for coffee beans. The coffee is a regional lot from many smallholders in the same region, so the cup reflects Huila as a whole.

  4. Bag of Kenya Ruka Chui
Drying beds at the washing station in Kenya, ready for the harvest

In Swahili, ruka means jump and chui means leopard. The coffee is grown by smallholders, some with farms of just half a hectare, who deliver their cherries to the Muchagara station in Kirinyaga and the Gathambi and Kiandu stations in Nyeri.

The cherries are sorted, pulped, fermented and washed before the beans dry in the sun on raised beds. Red volcanic soil, high altitude and a cool climate give the bright acidity.

    What does AB Plus mean?

In Kenya, coffee is graded by bean size and cup quality. AB is the second-largest size grade, and Plus shows that the cup has been judged especially fine and complex.

    The cup.

Smooth, juicy body with a black tea finish.
